Follies
In 2023, eleven special, nature-inclusive recreational homes – the follies – are being build on our Buitenplaats Koningsweg. Special accommodations that surprise, amaze and fool people and animals while they blend surprisingly well into the Veluwe landscape.
To this end, we and kwp launched a competition in 2021 for which about 75 combinations of private clients and architects registered. Together with fellow jury members Renkse van der Stoep (Roffaa), Hans van Loon (municipality of Arnhem) and Arnold Sprakel (KondorWessels Projects), we selected a series of special, astonishing objects in which people and animals can relax.
Just like the Germans in WW2, we chose the theme 'camouflage'
This new layer, which is added to the Veluwe landscape of the Buitenplaats as a permanent cultural event, was already part of the master plan that we made in 2010 for the Buitenplaats. In recent years, we mapped out the 11 locations and wrote the image quality plan for the Follies. Just like the Germans in WW2 on these barracks, we chose the theme ‘camouflage’. All follies are rented out for a large part of the year, so as soon as they are ready, you can also come on holiday to our Buitenplaats and the other follies, to discover the cultural enclave that is the Buitenplaats and special environment where nothing is what it seems!
